The essentials
To switch basic insurance on 1 January 2027, your current insurer must receive your cancellation no later than 30 November 2026. The date of receipt matters, not the postmark.
Check before switching
- Compare the new premium and insurance model.
- Distinguish basic from supplementary cover: supplementary insurance has separate deadlines.
- Register with the new insurer at the same time.
- Check the new insurer’s confirmation and debts subject to reminders.
The new insurer must notify your current insurer for the switch to take effect. Debts reminded by 30 November and debt-enforcement costs must be settled by 31 December 2026.
Send it in good time
The FOPH recommends sending notice by 15 November using registered mail or A-Post Plus. Keep proof of delivery.
